I'm Tim Scanlon. You may call me Tim or Sir.

Currently I'm a 20 something doing a PhD, living with my girlfriend and our puppy.

Isn't she cute!

We live in Perth, Western Australia. For those of you overseas, Australia is a large landmass in the southern hemisphere, where Nicole Kidman, Eric Bana (he was the one fighting Brad Pitt in that woefull Troy movie), and Crocidile Dundee come from. It is also where Russell Crowe does not come from.

For those of you in Australia, Perth is west of Sydney. Reach the ocean, you've gone too far, Adelaide, not far enough.

Being almost a Dr, I feel that most of my fields of interest, including stuff I've just seen on TV and don't know much about, are topics that I am a bona fide expert in.

Presumptuous?! No because that's exactly what everyone else does, but I will soon have Dr. in front of my name making my opinion far more valuable than anyone else's. Send me a question, I'll answer it in the FAQ.

Anyway I like sports, because I'm male, I like lifting weights, because I'm masculine, I like playing guitar, because I used to be a skinny little guy, and I'm doing a PhD, god knows why.

Up until recently I played AFL (football that doesn't have pads, doesn't use a round ball, passes the ball forward, and makes you as tough as nails). Due to a complete knee reconstruction I have decided to abstain from my sport and take up arm chair commentary like every other fan of football (which ever code you may follow). And I could be doing a better job than any of those guys on the field!

Don't take your knees for granted!

Once proud and mighty legs reduced to twigs! In this photo I've lost 3 inches (8cms) off of the left leg (photo right), and more off the right leg. Though who would guess as its swollen up to be the same size all along its length! The calves are looking tiny too, 1.5inches off them (4cm).

The injuries I've had while playing football have convinced me that staying in the gym and focussing on lifting big heavy stuff is much safer. Deadlifting 200kgs is just not as dangerous as being hit in the head by a 120kg guy with "marital issues".

I've sustained two hamstring strains, three disslocated fingers, one fractured finger, shin splints, torn two ankle ligaments in one ankle and one in the other, fractured two ribs, and the last one was a torn anterior cruciate ligament, grade two damage medial ligament, lateral meniscal tear, grade one posterior cruciate damage, and "general" mensical damage in my right knee.

Won't be doing that again. Like I said, football is a tough sport. But rehab is going well. Nothing like progress to make you feel better, let alone look better. Not long now till I'm squatting as much as I'm benching.
